Foods that trigger Migraines
In this post, we will be discussing about the food items which can trigger migraine headaches
All the food items which trigger migraine headaches have one of the following substances;
Monosodium glutamate(MSG), Yeast, Hydrolyzed plant or vegetable protein, Sodium caseinate
Foods which contain above Ingredients are as follows;
Foods containing Tyramine, phenylethylamine
Blue or cheddar cheese
Soy sauce or foods
Aged dried fermented meats
Fava beans, string beans, snow peas,, and
lima, navy, garbanzo, pinto, and pole beans, onions
Foods Containing Nitrites and or Tyramine;
cheddar, Swiss, mozzarella, and provolone cheese
Overripe bananas, raisins, figs, papayas, plums, and avocados.

Hot dogs, deli meats, and pepperoni all contain nitrites and can trigger migraine headaches. Used mostly as a preservative and added flavor, nitrites are also culprit to cause migraines, they are found in sausages (including chicken, turkey and soy sausages), jerky, corned beef, or cured, smoked, or canned foods.
Chocolate might trigger migraines similarly cocoa, and chocolate milk and chocolate cake can do so.
Caffeine containing beverages can induce migraines.
Desserts containing chocolate or nuts.
Alcoholic beverages particularly beer, red wine, and sherry can trigger headaches.
Yeast containing products.
Foods containing Aspartame
In some people, Aspartame, a common artificial sweetener, can also be a migraine trigger.
Sulfites is another preservative found in most dried fruits , wine (white and red), and many other processed foods. It can trigger migraines.
Red apples and pears, apple juice and cider, and red wine all contain tannins, which in some patients trigger migraines
Above are the food items which can trigger migraine headaches in persons who are prone to have them. Patients should keep a headache diary and every time there is a migraine headache episode, they should think and write down as to what they ate prior to having the headache. If the records indicate that migraine headaches always occur after eating a particular food item, then they should avoid it in the future and thus eliminate those food items which trigger the migraine headaches. It is to be understood that majority of the patients have idiopathic headaches which are not triggered by the above mentioned food items but some people have a definite correlation to the above food items and thus they should avoid them.
